Typical. Just typical. Just as my mission to persuade anyone who'll listen that The Neat, the greatest band of our generation was beginning to find success, the fuckers had to go and end it all. With only three singles by means of evidence, it seems all future attempts will fall on death ears, as a group who should have changed the face of planet Earth fade from virtual unknowns to, well, complete unknowns.
Thanks a lot guys.
But wait! All is not lost! Remember, Easter falls early this year, and perhaps as a reflection Hull's finest have essentially undergone their own resurrection, relaunching themselves with a fresh slate, a fresh sound and a fresh name. Now operating as LIFE, they have already unleashed the brand spanking new tune "In Citrus," and although quite a departure it's anything but a drop off in terms of sheer aural holyfuckingshittery. With Frankie & The Heartstrings' Mick Ross once more handling production duties, the track is a polished ditty which - aside from Mez Green's vocal quirks - leaves behind every trace of the scattershot post-punk madness of their previous guise, instead favouring glorious, instantly gratifying power pop hooks. It may only be an opening salvo, but if this is anything to go by, these boys could yet become the all-conquering cultural phenomenon the world is waiting for.
